With a view to leveraging the forthcoming festive season to bring new customers on board, Uber on Tuesday launched a “Gift Card” model. The Gift Cards offered by the San Francisco, California startup under the new model are redeemable across Uber rides and Uber Eats. These cards are available for purchase through Paytm and Woohoo, with value ranging between Rs. 500 to Rs. 10,000. The latest move comes weeks after the ride-sharing company brought its ‘Safety Toolkit’ in the country. The company is also making the experience easier for drivers by start accepting new driver partners with a private license.

Uber has enlisted Qwikcilver as the official issuer for its Gift Cards. Uber users can buy a Gift Card for their contacts through Paytm or Woohoo. The recipients, on the other hand, can redeem the Gift Cards to take an Uber ride or to order a meal through Uber Eats.

To redeem an Uber Gift Card, go to the Payments section in the Uber app and then tap the Add Payment Method option. After that, select the Gift Card option and then enter the Gift Code to see Uber credits added to your account.

Uber Gift Cards are available in six denominations: Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 3,000, Rs. 5,000, and Rs. 10,000. You can also use the GIFT05 promocode while purchasing the Gift Card from Paytm to receive a cashback worth Rs. 100.

It is worth pointing out that each Uber Gift Card comes with a validity of 36 months from the date of its activation and shall expire post its validity. Also, the terms and conditions mention that Gift Cards are available only in Indian cities where Uber or Uber Eats is available. Uber Gift Cards can be redeemed either fully or partially, without any limit on its usage. Furthermore, the Gift Card can be redeemed when setting up a new Uber account.

“The upcoming festive season gives us the perfect opportunity to launch the Uber Gift Card, a first-of-its-kind initiative combining fantastic offers across food and transportation at the tap of a button. Paytm has been a long-standing partner in bringing technology-enabled convenience to the Indian consumer, and we’re proud to take this partnership a step further with our first Uber Gift Card offering in India,” said Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, India and Emerging Markets, Uber, in a press statement while announcing the new model.
