New Delhi: The relevance of Aadhaar card, the biometric ID issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has been multiplying with the passage of time. Aadhaar card has become one of the most important documents for an Indian citizen following the validation of a bunch of government-linked subsidiaries & income tax return (ITR) filing with Aadhaar card, the introduction of PAN-Aadhar interchangeability and usage of Aadhaar for the KYC purposes in several private services.

Other than the resident Indians, the UIDAI is also working on the fine-tuning of the systems to facilitate the Aadhaar card services for non-resident Indians (NRIs) within 3 months time. The authorities have been working to reduce the Aadhaar application time for NRIs after the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed to offer Aadhaar services for NRIs after their arrival, without waiting for 180 days.

With the already-instituted dedicated Aadhaar update centres, the UIDAI has allowed individuals to update the address in Aadhaar card with the Aadhaar card online update facility if the active mobile number has been registered with the Aadhaar database system. However, the users are mandatorily required to visit an Aadhaar update centre to update other personal details such as mobile number, name, date of birth, fingerprints, etc.

Aadhaar card download from UIDAI website using OTP

An individual can download the Aadhaar card from the UIDAI website, www.uidai.gov.in, by clicking the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option which is located under the ‘Get Aadhaar’ tab in the ‘My Aadhaar’ dropdown. The user will be prompted to enter the 28-digit enrolment ID or the 12-digit Aadhaar card number or the 16-digit virtual ID along with the captcha code. The 28-digit enrolment ID can be obtained from the Aadhaar acknowledgement slip.

After entering either of the details, you are required to click on the ‘Send OTP’ button. A six-digit OTP will be sent on the registered mobile number of the user which will be valid for 10 minutes. The user will be directed to take a quick survey after entering the OTP. After filling out the survey, you can click on ‘Verify and Download’ to download the Aadhaar card.

The digital Aadhaar card downloaded on your system will be protected with a password which can be opened by entering a password in a combination of the first four letters of your name and your year of birth, as mentioned on the Aadhaar card. Users have the option to download a masked copy of Aadhaar card under which the first eight digits of Aadhaar card will be covered.
