Income Tax Notice: Received scrutiny notice? Use faceless assessment scheme to file reply online

Do you know about the faceless assessment facility offered by the Income Tax Department? This scheme is offered by the tax department to assessees to file their replies. So if you get a scrutiny notice from the Income Tax Department, don’t worry! You need not go to the I-T Office or meet the local I-T Officer to give your reply. You can use the Faceless Assessment Scheme and file your reply online.

This facility removes any physical interface between taxpayer and the IT Department.

All you have to do is to get online. Visit incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

 In its tweet, the department has asked assesses to reply electronically on the IT Department portal. The tweet further says that the faceless income tax will ensure a just and fair order for the assesses.

The department in its tweet has claimed that the scheme is already benefitting over 58,000 taxpayers     

This scheme was launched by the IT Department in October 2019. It was launched with an aim to to promote and facilitate faceless assessment of income tax returns through completely electronic communication. Under this scheme, taxpayers receive notices on their registered e-mails as well as on registered accounts on the web portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

The Income Tax department has disposed of 7,116 cases under the first phase of faceless assessment system.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced this scheme in her Budget speech on July 5, 2019. An estimated over 58,000 cases have been assigned in an automated way randomly based on computer algorithms.

The Income Tax Department referred to as IT Department or ITD is a government agency undertaking direct tax collection of the Government of India. It functions under the Department of Revenue of the Ministry of Finance. Income Tax Department is headed by the apex body Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
