EPF Passbook: EPFO subscribers can check PF balance without UAN number; here is how

EPF Passbook: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) allows all EPFO subscribers to check their Provident Fund (PF) and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) balance with the help of UAN (Universal Account Number). But, even if an EPF account holder doesn’t have UAN number, he can still check EPF balance.

EPFO subscribers can check their PF balance in four ways — by logging in at the EPFO portal epfindia.gov.in, via UMANG App, via missed call and SMS Service. Those who don’t have their EPF UAN number, can get their EPF balance by using the EPFO Missed call service because in other three ways, one needs EPF UAN number to know one’s EPF passbook details.

So, in case, an EPFO subscriber has forgotten EPF UAN number and wants to check PF balance, he or she needs to give a missed call on 011-229014016. But, the missed call has to be given from the mobile number registered with the EPF account. For availing of EPF Missed call service, the EPF account holder need not to give its EPF UAN number, however, they must be registered on the UAN portal and their KYC details need to be seeded with their EPF UAN account.

However, even if an EPFO subscriber has UAN, it needs to be activated on the EPFO website — epfindia.gov.in. Here is the step by step guide:

1] Log in at EPFO website — epfindia.gov.in;

2] Click at ‘Activate UAN’ option;

3] Enter UAN, name, date of birth and other KYC details;

4] VErify all KYC details after filling and click at the ‘Submit’ button;

5] An OTR will be sent on your registered mobile number;

6] Enter OTP and click ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.

After following the above-mentioned process, UAN will get activated and password will be sent on the registered mobile number. However, one can check one’s Pf or EPF balance only after the six hours of EPF UAN number activation.
