Aadhaar Card Updation: Want to change details? Know documents to be used as valid proof

Aadhaar Card Updation: If you want to update details in your Aadhaar Card you can do that easily online. If the update is pertaining to your name, address and date of birth, then you need to make sure that the documents used as proof to substantiate your claim should be in accordance to the list prescribed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). 

Permissible Proof of Identity (POI) documents containing name and photograph: 

The UIDAI has listed 32 documents which are valid POIs. Some of the most commonly used POIs are Passport, PAN Card, Ration/ PDS Photo Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Government Photo ID Cards, Service photo identity card issued by PSUs, NREGS Job Card, Arms License, Photo Bank ATM Card,  Photo Credit Card, Pensioner Photo Card, Freedom Fighter Photo Card, Kissan Photo Passbook and CGHS/ ECHS Photo Card.   

Permissible DOB (Date of Birth) documents containing Name and DOB 

UIDAI considers 15 types of documents valid for updating DOB details. These include birth certificate, SSLC Book/Certificate, Passport, Certificate of Date of Birth issued by Group A Gazetted Officer on UIDAI standard certificate format for enrolment/update, PAN Card, Marksheet issued by any Government Board or University and Government Photo ID Card/ Photo Identity Card issued by PSU containing DOB. 

Permissible Proof of Address (POA) documents containing Name and Address 

UIDAI has listed 23 documents which it considers valid for proving the information related to address. These include passport, bank statement/passbook, Post Office account statement/passbook, ration card, voter ID, driving license, electricity bill and water bill (not older than 3 months), telephone landline bill, property tax receipt not older than 1 year and insurance policy. 

Aadhaar details that can be updated are:

1) Demographic information – Name, Address, Date of Birth/Age, Gender, Mobile Number, Email Address, Relationship Status and Information Sharing Consent 

2) Biometric information – Iris, Finger Prints and Facial Photograph
