The COVID-19 pandemic hit the country almost a year ago. The schools and other educational institutions all over the country were closed since March last year and the students had to shift to the online mode of education. As the COVID-19 situation of the country seemed to be in control, the state governments in various states decided to reopen the schools. However, the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, has compelled many state governments to close the schools once again.
Here is a list of the states that have closed their schools and other educational institutions due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases across their states:
Owing to the fresh surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh ordered on March 19, 2021 that the educational institutions in the state will remain shut till March 31, 2021. Source: PTI
Chhattisgarh Minister Ravindra Choubey on March 21, 2021 informed that schools, colleges and Anganwadis will be closed in Chhattisgarh due to the massive rise in the number of COVID-19 cases. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also tweeted, “It has been decided by the state government that in view of spike in COVID-19 cases, all schools will remain closed till further notice. Except for class 10 and 12 board exams, exams of all other classes will not take place and all students will be given general promotions.” Source: PTI
3/4 Tamil Nadu
According to the state Revenue and Disaster Management Department, schools in the state of Tamil Nadu have been shut for classes 9,10 and 11 from March 2, 2021 until further notice. Source: PTI
4/4 Uttar Pradesh
Due to the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to shut down all schools up to class 8 till March 31, 2021. This was decided over a high-level meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister with government officials. Source: PTI
