Work on NH-8, Dwarka Expressway link to start soon

Gurgaon: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will take over the road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and start redevelopment work soon, the officials informed Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) during a review meeting on Friday.

The entire project includes the 5.8km stretch from NH-8 and Dwarka Expressway where two flyovers — one at Basai Chowk, the other at Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, a railway over-bridge near Basai village and an underpass at Khandsa road crossing will be built. The project also includes widening of the road from Umang Bharadwaj Chowk to Dwarka Expressway. The project is being developed by GMDA and NHAI together. While the first 2 kms between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk will be done by the NHAI, the rest of the stretch will be developed by GMDA.
The stretch will be redeveloped by the Rewari project implementation unit (PIU) of NHAI.

“We have asked GMDA to handover the encumbrance-free land to use before we begin mobilising and provisioning our resources. As per our information, it will take another one month to take over the said stretch. Once we get it, we’ll carry out a survey and accordingly begin the work,” said a senior official of NHAI Rewari PIU.

“The work has been delayed because GMDA did not release the funds timely. Also, we wanted encumbrance-free land. Now, it looks like we’ll be able to begin work from July and complete it in 2023,” the NHAI official added.

GMDA, on its part, has assured to facilitate the transfer of the land and ensure that public utilities are shifted at the earliest to avoid any further delay in the project. “We have directed all agencies to expedite the work and remove all the public utilities falling in the alignment of the project work,” said GMDA CEO Sudhir Rajpal.
