Karnataka School, College Reopening: No decision yet, says Deputy CM

Karnataka State Government has not yet taken any decision on the reopening of schools and colleges. The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister said that the decision will be taken after re-evaluation the situation.

Karnataka State Government has not yet taken any decision on the reopening of schools and colleges across the state. The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan said that the decision will be taken after only after high discussions in multiple phases. The schools, colleges and educational institutions have been closed in the state due to the prevailing COVID situation.

Earlier, Karnataka Government was recommended by a high level committee to reopen the schools and colleges in a staggered manner. An interim research report submitted by the committee suggested the reopening of schools and colleges with proper protocols. 

On-campus classes were likely to get started for senior classes. The high level committee had prepared a 91 page recommendation report. Speaking to the news agency ANI, the Deputy CM said, “At present, schools and colleges are closed. Based on the vaccination drive for people above 18 years, it will be decided on how to go ahead. Experts have suggested reopening the institutions. However, the state government has not decided anything on it; we will look into it after discussion.”

According to the Union Health Ministry, Karnataka has 116473 active cases of COVID 19. As per the recent reports, Karnataka State Government has not yet taken any decision on the reopening of schools, colleges and educational institutions.
