Manipur extends night curfew amid surge in COVID-19 cases

An order issued by chief secretary Rajesh Kumar said the COVID-19 situation in the state continues to be of concern and warrants measures to control the spread of the infection.

Imphal: Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Manipur government on Friday extended night curfew in all districts till July 20, from 7 pm to 5 am.

An order issued by chief secretary Rajesh Kumar said the COVID-19 situation in the state continues to be of concern and warrants measures to control the spread of the infection.

The order said that authorised service centres for personal computers and mobiles may be allowed to open from 10 am to 2 pm on days when grocery shops are closed. Opening up will depend on the COVID-19 scenario and the progress in vaccination, the order said.

While the district administration shall ensure that spots for vegetable vendors are clearly marked and compiled, grocery shops will open as per the earlier arrangement from 7 am to 10 am on July 12, 15 and 18, the order said.

The home department has further told the High Court to decide its activities based on various measures taken up by the government, as deemed appropriate.

Also, deputy commissioners and superintendents of police should take necessary action to implement the night curfew orders strictly to prevent further spread of COVID-19 cases in Manipur, it said.

On Friday, Manipur reported 854 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths, pushing the total confirmed cases and death toll to 76,032 and 1,251 respectively.
