Aditya Chopra turns down Rs 400 crore offer from an OTT giant for digital release of his movies

While Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and other Bollywood stars decided to release their films on the OTT platforms during the COVID pandemic, a producer who stayed firm on his decision about releasing the movies in theatres was, Aditya Chopra.
Currently, Aditya’s production house has several films lined up for the release that includes ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, ‘Shamshera’, ‘Prithviraj’, ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’. The producer has held on the release of these movies for over 18 months and is continuing to do so.

A source told a leading website that the production house has been approached by several OTT platforms. But Aditya is clear that his movies are meant to be released in theatres.
The source further told the website that after the second wave of pandemic and no clear indication on reopening of theatres in Maharashtra, OTT giant Amazon Prime Video made an offer to Chopra to buy the 4 films for Rs 400 crore. However, the producer gave a straight ‘No’ as an answer.

As Adi was not ready to sell all four of the movies which included the magnum opus ‘Prithviraj’ and ‘Shamshera’, the digital platform was prepared to strike a deal for the other two films – ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ and ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’. However, they got a ‘No’ again from the producer.

The report further stated that the production will soon announce the release dates of the respective films.
