EPFO doubles this relief fund to Rs 8 lakh; know details, e-nomination process

The EPFO has taken a decision to enhance the ex-gratia death relief fund. In case of any queries regarding EPFO, the members can login to the official website of EPFO at epfindia.gov.in.  

EPFO Accidental Death Benefit: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has a taken a major decision about its members and their dependents. The EPFO has taken a decision to enhance the ex-gratia death relief fund. In case of any queries regarding EPFO, the members can login to the official website of EPFO at epfindia.gov.in.

The EPFO has recently issued a circular where it stated the enhancement of the ex-gratia death relief fund from Rs 4.2 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The circular further said, “The ex-gratia Death Relief Fund of Rs 8.00 lakh (Rs Eight Lakh only) shall be paid to the family members (nominee or legal heirs) of the deceased employee of the Central Board from the Welfare Fund where cause of death is other than Covid-19 disease.”

The EPFO members must note that the instructions will come into force with immediate effect and will be applicable to the prospective cases where the date of death is after the date of issue of the circular, that is, November 2, 2021.

It is expected that this new decision by the EPFO will now benefit about 30,000 employees across the country. The institute has also issued circulars in its offices informing the decision.

It has to be noted that the EPFO has recently tweeted from its official Twitter handle about e-nomination. The tweet said, “Why one should file e-Nomination?”

Now, in order to file e-nomination, the EPFO members have to follow some simple steps. They are as follows:

Step 1: One has to visit the official EPFO website at epfindia.gov.in. Then one has to choose the ‘ Service’ option. Again, one has to choose the ‘For Employees’ option. Now, one has to click on ‘Member UAN/ Online Service (OCS/OTP)

Step 2: Then one has go login with UAN and password

Step 3: Now, one has to select ‘E-nomination’ under ‘ Manage Tab’

Step 4: Next ‘Provide Details’ tab will appear on screen and one has to click on ‘Save’

Step 5: One has to click on ‘Yes’ to update family declaration

Step 6: After this, one has to click ‘Add Family Details’. It has to be noted that more than one nominee can be added

Step 7: Now, one has to click ‘Nomination Details’ to declare the total amount of share. Then one has to click on ‘Save EPF Nomination’

Step 8: Finally, one has to click on ‘E-sign’ to generate OTP and submit the OTP on mobile number linked with Aadhaar

One must note that after this process, the e-nomination will be registered with EPFO. After e-nomination, there is no need to send any documents to employer or ex-employer.
