Hyderabad: An unidentified man’s body was found inside the public water tank in a decomposed state in Ramnagar municipal division, Musheerabad Police limits in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

When the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) personnel found the dead body after arriving at the tank for routine maintenance at around 4.30 PM on Tuesday. Officials stated that the tank, which is located in Hari Nagar’s Risalagadda, has been in use.

The cleaning crew alerted Musheerabad police as they were about to descend into the tank to clean it after emptying it. “The man’s footwear was carefully kept aside, and his age is expected to be between 25 and 30 years,” an officer stated as quoted by The Hindu, adding that his death could have occurred at least a week ago.

Thousands of families in the Musheerabad area have been using this water. The tank supplies drinking water to Shivasthanpur, SRK Nagar, Padmashali Sangham and Harinagar colonies. Reportedly, people who drank the water are deeply concerned about the incident.

Suspicion of suicide or murder is not ruled out, and police have been reviewing for any CCTV evidence related to the incident.

After a suspicious death case was reported, the decomposed remains were shifted for medical evaluation. Meanwhile, officials have announced that water inflow into the tank will be shut off for the next two days to complete the necessary processes.
