Aadhaar – mobile number linking: How to link phone number with Aadhaar in simple steps

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues Aadhaar as a core for the Indian government’s Digital India initiative and commitment to financial inclusion. The 12-digit individual identification number serves as proof of identity and proof of for residents of India. Data including biometrics, address proof and photograph makes it easier to verify the identity of the person. And to make the identification process easier, UIDAI has made it necessary to link Aadhaar with mobile number.

Linking Aadhaar card with mobile makes it easier for people to avail various Aadhaar-related services, use the online Self Service Update Portal (SSUP), mAadhaar App, and more. The linking is also important as it helps the government to verify various links with Aadhaar data and identify the owner of the mobile number. Along with that users can also request a copy of their Aadhaar card if they lost their original if their mobile number is linked with Aadhaar.

How to link mobile number with Aadhaar card 

  • Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
  • Fill out the Aadhaar Correction Form given by the executive.
  • Next, fill in the mobile number that you want to update on your Aadhaar card. 
  • The Aadhaar executive takes your biometrics for authentication and finally submits the form.
  • Keep the Update Request Number (URN)slip about your request the executive will give you the acknowledgment slip of your request.
  • The Update Request Number can be used to track the status of Aadhaar updation.
  • Once the linking process is done, you will receive an Aadhaar OTPs for availing a number of facilities once your mobile number is registered with your Aadhaar
  • You can also call UIDAI’s toll-free number 1947 to get the Aadhaar update status.

How to check if Aadhaar card is linked to mobile number

  • Visit official website of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) https://uidai.gov.in/
  • Tap on My Aadhaar available on the homepage.
  • From the drop-down menu and under Aadhaar Services, click Verify Registered mobile or email id.
  • In the opened new tab enter Aadhaar number and or mobile number or email ID, which you wish to verify.
  • Now enter the captcha code and click on Send OTP.

If the mobile number matches with the records of the UIDAI, then you will see a flash- “The mobile you have entered has already been verified with our records.”
