PAN Aadhaar Link Last Date, Status Check, Penalty: The Income Tax department has informed that it is mandatory to link permanent account numbers (PAN) with Aadhaar. The last date to link Pan with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023.

After March 31, PAN holders will be not able to use the 10-digit unique alphanumeric number. They will also be barred from making any financial transactions.

PAN Aadhaar link fees, fine, penalty

As of now, those who haven’t linked their PAN and Aadhaar, can link the two identity cards before the deadline by paying a fine of Rs 1,000. 

The Income Tax Department in a Tweet said, “As per Income-tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN holders, who do not fall under the exempt category, to link their PAN with Aadhaar before March 31, 2023. From April 1, 2023, the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative. What is mandatory, is necessary. Don’t delay, link it today!”

How to link PAN with Aadhaar

Step 1:  Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal – https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/S

Step 2:  Register on it (if not already done). Your PAN (Permanent Account Number) will be your user id.

Step 3: Login by entering the User ID, password and date of birth.

Step 4: A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN with Aadhaar.  

Step 5: Enter details such as name, date of birth and gender will already be mentioned as per the PAN details.

Step 6: Verify the PAN details on the screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar.  

Step 7: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the “link now” button. 

Step 8: A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN.

Why you should PAN with Aadhaar?  

  • Linking PAN with Aadhaar will help in tackling the problem of multiple PAN cards issued in the same name.
  • Your income tax return form would not be processed if your PAN is not linked to Aadhaar.
  • Citizens will get a summarised detail of taxes levied.
