3 new iPhones to launch on September 12: Specs, features, design and everything else we know so far

It’s almost confirmed. There are so many reports now from Apple-specific tech blogs that the new iPhones will be launched this year on September 12 that it is impossible to ignore this date. And on top of that, just a few days we got the report from Bloomberg, which is almost always right about the unreleased Apple products, that new iPhones are coming in September.

So, if the new iPhones are coming, what is it that is coming with them. What the new iPhones will be called, will they be called the iPhone X (2018) and the iPhone X Plus? Or will their names be the iPhone 9 and the iPhone 9 Plus? More importantly how many iPhones Apple is launching this year?

The full and final answers to these questions will surely come only on the day Apple launches the new iPhones, but ahead of that rumours and reports so far do provide a fairly believable picture of the upcoming Apple phones. Here is what we know so far.

Apple is expected to launch three iPhones in 2018. One of them will be the follow up of the iPhone X, the second one or the top-end model will be a bigger version of the iPhone X with a bigger screen, and lastly, there will be a “budget iPhone”. The iPhones of 2018 will not see a lot of changes as far as the design of the phones is concerned, note reports. They are expected to look a lot like the iPhone X, which Apple announced to celebrate the phone’s tenth-anniversary last year.

All the three iPhones launching this year will borrow a lot of features from the iPhone X. For example, all the three iPhones will come with a notched display, Face ID support, and glass design. The direct successor to the iPhone X — also likely to be called the iPhone X this year — will come with a 5.8-inch OLED display. It will also have mostly the same features that users get in the iPhone X, apart from a more powerful processor.

Talking of the processor, all three iPhones this year are likely to use A12 processor, which will be designed by Apple and manufactured by TSMC.

The second iPhone or the most expensive model to launch this year will come with a 6.5-inch OLED display. Apple may call it the iPhone X Plus. Although, apart from the bigger screen, it is likely to share its features with the regular iPhone X.

Then there are rumours of a third iPhone. This one will have 6.1-inch LCD display. This phone is creating a lot of buzz because it is supposed to have relatively “affordable price”. Analysts suggest that this 6.1-inch LCD display iPhone, which will look like the iPhone X, will be priced between $600 – $700 (roughly translates to around Rs 50,000) unlike the other two iPhones that may come with a price tag of Rs 70,000 or more.

NAMES OF UPCOMING IPHONES

iPhone X (2018), iPhone 9, iPhone 11 or iPhone XS? The confusion persists. Previous rumours suggested the follow up of the iPhone X will be called the iPhone X (2018). The high-end model will be called the iPhone X Plus. And lastly, the affordable iPhone could be the iPhone 9. Some reports also said the 6.1-inch display iPhone could be the iPhone SE 2. A new report coming from Bloomberg shoots down all rumours and says that the 5.8-inch model will be the iPhone XS, while the 6.5-inch model will be called the iPhone XS Plus. This bit of information has reportedly been revealed by sources reportedly aware of the developments of the upcoming iPhones. So it can be more reliable than the rest.

5.8-INCH IPHONE SPECS, FEATURES, DESIGN AND PRICE

This iPhone model will be more like the iPhone X. The phone may not have any visible differences from the current one in terms of design, but it will be definitely more powerful than the iPhone X. The iPhone X successor will come with the same design, notched display, edge-to-edge design and glass back. The areas where the iPhone XS will see an upgrade is in the hardware and the camera department. The phone will be powered by Apple A12 processor and come with dual camera setup on the rear panel. The phone is also rumoured to come with wireless charging support.

Earlier this week analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is often accurate in his Apple predictions, revealed the specs and the pricing details of all the three iPhones. He said that the 5.8-inch iPhone or the iPhone XS will come with dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back. The phone will come with 4GB RAM, three storage models – 64GB, 256GB and 512GB and battery with capacity between 2600mAh and 2700mAh.

The iPhone X was launched for $1000, but the iPhone XS is expected to come with a price of around $800, which is almost $200 less

6.5-INCH IPHONE SPECS, FEATURES, DESIGN AND PRICE

This is going be the upgraded version of the iPhone X. Kuo has also revealed the full specs and price of the phone. The 6.1-inch iPhone or the iPhone XS Plus is said to come with a large OLED panel and will be the costliest phone of the three iPhones this year. The phone will be powered by A12 processor, similar to the one inside the iPhone XS and come with 4GB RAM and in three storage variants — 64GB, 256GB and 512GB. The iPhone XS Plus will come with a battery that has capacity between 3300mAh and 3400mAh. If

The iPhone XS Plus will be more expensive than the iPhone XS. The 6.5-inch iPhone will also come with dual 12-megapixel back cameras. Interestingly, Apple is expected to launch two models of the iPhone XS – one with single SIM support and the second one with dual SIM tray, depending on where it is launching the phone. For example, in India the dual-SIM variant may come to the market.

The iPhone XS Plus will also look like the iPhone X. It will come with a notched display, Face ID support. It’s body will be mostly glass but the frame will use stainless steel. Kuo suggests that the iPhone XS Plus will come with starting price of $900 (roughly around Rs 63,000).

6.1-INCH IPHONE SPECS, FEATURES, DESIGN AND PRICE

Analysts believe this could be iPhone of the year and its demand would be high. Reason? It’s expected to be relatively more affordable. The 6.1-inch display iPhone is said to be priced between $600 and $690, which roughly translates to around Rs 48,000. Like the iPhone XS Plus, this affordable version — which could be the iPhone 9 or the iPhone SE 2 – is also expected to come in two variants: One with single SIM slot and the second one with dual SIM support.

The iPhone will look also like the iPhone X with glass design and notched display. It will have support for Face ID. But there are differences too. It will come with LCD screen and pack single camera on both front and back. The primary camera in this phone is expected to use a 12-megapixel sensor. It will be powered by A12 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB or 256GB storage. The phone will come with battery that has a capacity between 2600mAh and 2700mAh.
