Cognizant Will Hire 23,000 Indians Directly From College Campuses; 9-Hour Work Day For All

Cognizant, one of the most prominent multinational IT companies, is all set to carry out the biggest hiring drive in the history of the company.

Ahead of the high attrition rate reported by the company, Cognizant has chalked out a plan to hire new graduates in the new year. Looks like the company might be compensating for its massive 18% churn rate by hiring about 35% more employees as compared to 2020.

What Is Cognizant’s Hiring Plan?

The Indian arm of  Business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services major Cognizant has around 2 lakh employees working for it presently. The company recruited 17,000 employees last year.

However, according to Chairman and Managing Director of Cognizant India, Rajesh Nambiar, this year the company is looking forward to hiring 23,000 people starting from campuses which are 35% more employees than last year.

The campus hiring plan will not affect the lateral hiring as it will happen simultaneously. Apparently, the number of employees the company is planning to hire in this quarter is more than any other quarter in the entire history of Cognizant.

For Which Domains Will Cognizant Hire?

The company is focusing on adding more force to the staff that is dedicated to digital products. This includes services like cloud, data, digital engineering, and the internet of things (IoT). The other domains for which the company is going to hire are cybersecurity, salesforce, and business modernization technologies.

CMD Rajesh Nambiar highlighted that Indian employees make up 70% of Cognizant’s total workforce making the company is one of the top recruiters for engineering, science and management students.

However, the company should maybe consider improving itself in terms of retaining the employees. As per the earlier report, Cognizant had reported the highest attrition rate among any other IT company in India. This was more a result of voluntary leaves than the unfortunate consequences of the pandemic. The long 9-hour mandatory work shifts enforced by the company might be a reason.
