Free education for classes 9 to 12 in Haryana, 8 new medical colleges

In the Haryana budget 2021, it has been announced that the government will initiate the process to provide free education for classes 9 to 12.

During the presentation of the budget after a Covid-hit financial year, the government of Haryana has announced the plans of imparting education for free for students of classes 9 to 12 in the state, to motivate more students to graduate from school.

For the fiscal year of 2021-22, the budget announced by the Haryana government mainly focussed on health, agriculture, and infrastructure to recover from the losses incurred due to the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

The government, while presenting the budget, stated that free education will be provided to students of classes 9 to 12 studying in government schools in Haryana. It was also announced that funds have been allocated to build eight new medical colleges in the state.

The budget for the upcoming financial year was announced by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who also holds the finance portfolio in the state. The Rs. 1.56 lakh crore budget for the upcoming financial year was announced in the Assembly.

KG to PG programme

While announcing the budget for the next year, the government of Haryana also introduced a new initiative in the education system of the state called the ‘KG to PG’ programme, which will help students pursue higher education with ease.

Under this new initiative, the students in Haryana will be able to avail themselves of education from nursery to post-graduation in a single institution. This programme will initially be introduced in Kurukshetra University and MDU, Rohtak.

“In this light, the state government aims to achieve a distinct place on the educational map of the nation by implementing most of the components of the National Education Policy (NEP) before 2025,” the chief minister told the Vidhan Sabha.

The government is also planning to set up new medical colleges in Jind, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Faridabad, Kaithal, Mahendragarh and Sirsa along with a new dental college in Nuh as part of the new initiatives for the upcoming financial year.
