Gujarat: High schools to conduct classes in morning shift

AHMEDABAD: After primary schools, the state education department has directed secondary and higher secondary schools to run in morning shifts only, said sources in the state government.

With schools being closed for on-campus education due to the Covid-19 situation, morning hours seem to be the preferred time for teachers to hold online classes.

The decision comes after representations were made by teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools in this regard, according to sources.

Recently, the department directed primary schools to run in morning hours and carry online education sessions in this period. The director of primary education also issued a circular in this regard last week.

Last month, a group of primary school teachers made representation to the state government to allow schools to function only in morning shifts.

Schools are closed due to Covid-19 for on-campus education and teachers are holding online classes for the new academic year that began on June 7.

The State Primary Teachers’ Association has recently written to the director of primary education in this regard.
After a long hiatus of about nine months, the government had started opening schools for on-campus studies in the month of January in a staggered way but had to soon close them and switch to online education after there was a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.
