TCS to invest Rs 600 crore in Kerala: Min

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Industry minister P Rajeeve informed the Assembly on Thursday that the IT-major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has agreed to invest Rs 600 crore in the state.

“They have evinced interest to invest at Kinfra Electronic and Manufacturing Cluster at Kakkanad in Kochi. It has been decided to sign a memorandum of understanding for this soon. They have agreed to set up a campus for IT and IT enabled services here,’’ said the minister. As per their proposal, at the completion of the two phases of the project in five years, it would provide a direct employment for 20,000 people.

Apart from this, V-Guard has agreed to set up an electronic lab, testing lab and a reliability lab at Kinfra Park in Kochi. With the setting up of these units, a direct employment for 800 people will be assured. V-Guard will be investing Rs 120 crore for this, the minister said.

The LuLu Group has agreed to invest for an electronic warehouse unit at Kinfra Apparel Park in the capital. This project is expected to provide an employment for 850 people, he said.

He further added that Fair Exports has agreed to invest Rs 200 crore at Ernakulam Hi-Tech Park. Rajeeve said the number of micro, small and medium enterprise units in the state have doubled in the last five years. TNN
