Amazon expands presence in Telangana with 5th fulfilment centre

HYDERABAD: In a bid to gear up for the upcoming festive season, Amazon India said it has expanded its fulfilment network in Telangana with the setting up of its fifth fulfilment centre (FC) in the state.

The move takes up the e-commerce giant’s total footprint in the state to over 1 million sq ft with a total storage capacity of over 5 million cubic feet.

The new FC, which is a specialised one catering to large appliances and furniture, is spread over 2 lakh sq ft with a storage capacity of over 6 lakh cubic feet at Mulugu mandal in Siddipet district on Hyderabad’s outskirts.

Apart from this, the company has also expanded its existing specialised FC (large appliances and furniture) at Medchal by another 1 lakh sq feet with an additional 4 lakh sq ft storage space.

Abhinav Singh, director, Amazon Transportation Services, Amazon India, said Hyderabad’s proximity to cities and towns around the region makes it a strategic location for Amazon’s infrastructure expansion.

“The expanded infrastructure will help us meet our customers growing demand for large appliances and furniture while empowering small and medium businesses across the state. Our continued investment in Telangana will have a multiplier impact on the local economy and provide an impetus to ancillary businesses across the state,” Singh added.

The latest expansion would result in a 35% increase in overall floor area and 25% rise in overall storage capacity that Amazon has in Telangana, Amazon said, adding that the Telangana expansion is part of its plans to ramp up national storage capability by close to 40% in 2021.

Apart from five FCs, the e-comm biggie also has two large sort centres with over 1 lakh sq ft processing area in the state, where it has over 35,000 sellers.
