Free Health Insurance for Orphans: The Narendra Modi led central government has taken a huge decision for the benefits of the orphaned children due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The central government has decided to give free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh to children up to 18 years of age who had been orphaned due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur tweeted about this decision taken by the Modi government from his official Twitter handle. The tweet said, “As part of the steps taken to take care of children affected by Covid, children up to 18 years will be given free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat and its premium will be paid by PM Cares.”

The Union Minister also shared a photo with his tweet that said that in case of the children up to 18 years of age who have lost both their parents or guardians due to the COVID-19 pandemic will receive a monthly stipend. Furthermore, upon turning 23 years, they will be given an amount of Rs 10 lakh.

An ANI report states that according to an official statement, the PM CARES for Children Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2021 for children. The aim of the scheme is to support children who have lost both their parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parent due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the period starting from March 11, 2020.

The objective of the scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of the children in a sustained manner and to enable their well-being through health insurance. The PM CARES for Children Scheme further aims at empowering the orphaned children by means of education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support of Rs 10 lakh upon reaching 23 years of age.
