Uttar Pradesh: No Saturday lockdown, markets and shops to remain closed only on Sundays starting this weekend

The Sunday lockdown, or ‘Corona Curfew’, will continue as earlier to ensure the state does not completely let down its guard.

Lucknow: Taking into account a drop in Covid-19 cases, while also keeping in mind the approaching third wave of the pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government has relaxed containment measures across the state starting this weekend.

As per the new order, the Yogi Adityanath government has permitted the movement of people from 6 am-10 pm from Mondays to Saturdays, starting today.

However, the Sunday lockdown, or ‘Corona Curfew’, will continue as earlier to ensure the state does not completely let down its guard.

The Chief Minister has directed authorities to consider the partial relaxation on the shutdown of shops and commercial establishments over weekends since the Covid-19 situation has improved in the state.

Currently, markets, shops and other commercial establishments are permitted to function from 6 am-10 pm from Mondays to Fridays, while the lockdown is in place on the weekend.

But, the new order that comes into force from August 14 allows people to carry out all activities on Saturdays as well.

Having said that, the new directive does state that everyone will have to mandatorily wear face masks, observe social distancing and use hand sanitisers.

The CM has directed the respective government officials to ensure Covid-appropriate protocols are strictly followed across the state, and there shouldn’t be any unnecessary congregation of masses.

Meanwhile, there has been a sudden surge in cases in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh, which has triggered concern for the state government.

As per state health department data, 10 cases have been reported from the district in the past 24 hours, as against barely a couple of cases over the past two weeks.
