Meghalaya set to reopen borders for tourists from Sept 1

Good news for travellers waiting to explore northeast India! The government of Meghalaya has announced that it will reopen its borders for tourists starting September 1, 2021. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting held in Shillong. The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the tourist attractions in the state will reopen again in september. that in urban regions.

The CM took to Twitter and made three important announcements:


#Meghalaya will restart its tourism from 1st September 2021 with the following protocols:

“Meghalaya will restart its tourism (sector) from 1st September 2021 with the following protocols: Fully vaccinated tourists will be allowed to visit the state for tourism-related purposes from 1st September, 2021.”

“Tourists who are vaccinated with a single dose will have to produce a negative RT-PCR/TrueNat/CBNAAT report valid only if they have tested within 72 hrs prior to their arrival at the entry point.”

“Local tourists from within the State that are fully vaccinated/vaccinated with single dose will be allowed to visit any location in Meghalaya for tourism purposes.”

Who all can visit?

As per government announcement, people who are fully vaccinated and if not fully vaccinated, a negative RT PCR report is a must. The test should not be older than 72 hours prior to the visit. Also, travellers will have to share their hotel details along with other itineraries to the authorities.

Meanwhile, the public parks like Ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park in the state were recently reopened for only vaccinated visitors. Religious places were opened on August 21 and several sports activities were permitted to reopen subject to compliance with the SOPs issued by the Sports & Youth Affairs Department for Resumption of Recreational and Competitive Sports.

Apparently, a lockdown in Meghalaya was imposed on May 5 when the country was hit by the deadly second wave of Covid-19.
