Facebook smartwatch images leak online after Meta announcement

Facebook has got a new name, and it will now be called Meta. Following the Facebook Connect event where CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the company’s vision of a Metaverse, design images of the company’s first smartwatch have leaked.

The design images uploaded by Bloomberg reveal the front of the device. The Facebook smartwatch (or perhaps the Meta Watch), will look quite similar to the Apple Watch in terms of design. The watch has a square-is shape but is a bit more rounded and curved around the edges. It also has slightly thicker bezels compared to the latest Apple Watch Series 7.

What differentiates the Facebook Watch is the camera at the bottom of the display. This camera sensor is said to be used for video calls. The smartwatch will also have a second camera on the back, which can be used to capture photos after the body is detached from the stainless steel watch frame. Previously, it was reported that users can detach the watch from the frame to click photos and share them directly on Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp. The Facebook smartwatch is also expected to offer cellular connection support for users to share messages or make calls without their smartphone.

As expected from a smartwatch, the upcoming Meta smartwatch will also have many health and fitness tracking features. The current timeline for the Facebook smartwatch launch is 2022. As expected, Meta has not announced the Facebook smartwatch official launch date at the moment.
