Mumbai’s Dharavi Reports Omicron Case, Patient Returned From Tanzania, Admitted to Hospital

Mumbai: Mumbai’s Dharavi has reported one case of Omicron variant on Friday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that the person had returned from Tanzania. As per the updates, the patient is now admitted to the Seven Hills Hospital.

Giving details, the BMC said the patient is asymptomatic and is not vaccinated. The BMC also added that two other people who had come to receive the patient have been traced as well.

With this new case, Maharashtra reported its 11th case of Omicron variant in the state. The BMC further added that the patient, a Maulavi who had arrived in Mumbai to give sermons at a mosque in Dharavi, is at the Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.

The case came to limelight after the random testing was conducted when he landed in Mumbai on December 4 from Tanzania and the results of his genome sequencing report arrived on Friday.

After his arrival, an RT-PCR test was conducted at the airport, and he was asked to wait at the airport and had later departed for his residence in Dharavi.

However, during his transit, the results of his RT-PCR test came positive for Covid. Then, he was immediately shifted to Seven Hills hospital before he could enter the Dharavi area. As per the updates, the patient’s close contacts are being tested for Covid.
