India’s Omicron tally crosses 400-mark, Covid recovery rate highest since March 2020

India’s Omicron tally has crossed the 400-mark. However, the country has reported the highest Covid recovery rate since March 2020 at 98 per cent.

While the rapidly surging Omicron Covid variant has crossed the 400-mark in India, the country has also recorded the highest Covid recovery rate since March 2020 at 98.40 per cent.

At present, India has 415 cases of the Omicron variant and several curbs have been imposed, including night curfews and limits on large gatherings across the country to curtail the spread of the new variant.

India’s active caseload currently stands at 77,032 — the lowest in 579 days. Active cases account for less than 1 per cent of the total cases at present.

As many as 7,286 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 3,42,23,263.

A total of 7,189 new Covid cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total caseload to 3,47,79,815.

The weekly positivity rate (0.60%) has been less than 1 per cent for the last 41 days.

A total of 67.10 crore tests have been conducted so far.

TOP DEVELOPMENTS

  • The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 2,605 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 1,410 cases, Tamil Nadu with 597 cases, West Bengal with 550 cases and Karnataka with 405 cases.
  • Around 77.43 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 36.24 per cent of the new cases.
  • 387 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 4,79,520.
  • Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala with 342 new deaths, followed by Maharashtra with 12 daily fatalities.
  • India has administered a total of 66,09,113 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,41,01,26,404.
  • A total of 11,12,195 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
