Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma booked over remarks on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi

Hyderabad Police registered a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his comments on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing a rally in poll-bound Uttarakhand on February 11, Himanta Biswa Sarma had called out Rahul Gandhi for demanding proof of the September 2016 surgical strike and asked if the BJP had ever demanded proof of him being the “son of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi”.

The BJP leader’s remark drew criticism from the Opposition, with Telangana Congress asking its cadre to file complaint against Himanta Biswa Sarma in all police stations of the state.

“Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comment is not against the Gandhi family or Congress, but it is an insult to motherhood. Congress workers will file criminal complaints against Sarma in all 709 police stations in Telangana tomorrow,” Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy had said.

Following the complaint, the Jubilee Hills Police have booked a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his alleged derogatory comments against Rahul Gandhi.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has been booked under Sections 504 and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
