Kerala-Vidhan-Sabha

The opposition UDF (United Democratic Front) in Kerala walked out of the Assembly during a policy address by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Friday, January 18. The governor had reached Kerala Assembly for the policy address that marks the beginning of the Budget session 2022-23.

While Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan and Speaker MB Rajesh received the Governor cordially, the opposition greeted him with ‘go back’ slogans. The governor has had issues with both the ruling party and the opposition party and was unhappy with the negative reception.

He expressed his displeasure and told opposition leader VD Satheesan that he was a responsible person and should act responsibly.

The opposition leader slammed the governor, alleging that he was the BJP’s agent in Kerala. He also said that the governor was helping the government in its illegal activities while pressuring them to realise his end of the deals.

VD Satheesan pointed to the instance where Arif Mohammad Khan had refused to sign a policy address at first and later gave in after a reappointment in the General Administration department.

He also quoted the examples of the vice-chancellor appointment at Kannur University and the Lokayukta amendment ordinance, which was signed by him recently.
