Tamil Nadu Urban Local Body Election Results: DMK wins 5 wards in Chennai, leading in Madurai, Salem

The counting of votes in the Tamil Nadu urban local bodies election began at 8 am on Tuesday. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has, so far, won five of the 200 wards in the Greater Chennai Corporation. DMK is leading in several seats in Madurai, Coimbatore and Salem in the Tamil Nadu urban local body elections.

Tamil Nadu registered a voter turnout of 60.70 per cent in urban local bodies elections that were held on February 19. The Tamil Nadu urban local body polls were held after more than a decade.

The single-phase Tamil Nadu urban local body election 2022 was held to fill 12,838 posts in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, 490 town panchayats and 649 urban local bodies. As many as 74,416 candidates, including many independents, entered the fray.

In the Tamil Nadu urban local bodies elections, the constituents of the opposition AIADMK alliance contested on their respective party’s own strengths, rather than remaining together, against the ruling DMK combine. The Tamil Nadu urban local body election results are likely to be declared today.
