Delhi: Health clinics launched at 20 government schools

The Delhi government on Monday inaugurated 20 health clinics, named Aam Aadmi School Clinics, as part of a pilot project to focus on the mental well-being and physical health of students.

The project seeks to bring healthcare for children to their respective schools across Delhi.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia inaugurated one of these health clinics at the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Moti Bagh. During the inauguration, he said, “These clinics will provide routine health check-ups as well as counselling to ensure the children’s physical and mental well-being.”

Aam Aadmi School Clinics:

These clinics will function out of porta cabins set up on the premises of the 20 schools.

Students will get counselling services and the doctors and staff at the clinic will focus on ensuring the mental well-being of the students.

Each clinic will be staffed with one ‘School Health Clinic Assistant’ or nurse, one psychologist, and one multi-task worker. One doctor will be available for every five clinics and will visit each once a week.

30 students will be screened each day and there will be an adequate supply of medicines for them. This list of medicines has been curated keeping in mind the specific needs of adolescents, with a primary focus on anaemia, malnutrition, refractive errors, worm infestation, and menstrual hygiene.

“I have seen schools in various countries, this concept is not there anywhere. Besides providing routine health check-ups to students, the clinics will also offer counselling services to address issues related to the mental well-being of children. Every six months, the students will undergo a health check up,” Manish Sisodia said, as reported by PTI.
