Redmi K50 series is launching globally on March 17: Here’s all that we know so far

Redmi is all set to launch the Redmi K50 later this week. The smartphone will debut on March 17 alongside other K50 series models in China. The complete details will be revealed on the day of launch, but leaks and teasers have given us a peek at the upcoming devices.

In one of the recent teasers, a Matte Black Redmi K50 Pro was shown with a refreshed camera module when compared to the predecessor. Three new colour options of the smartphone also surfaced online recently. Considering the leaks and rumours, we can expect the phone to launch in multiple colour options later this week.

Redmi has already confirmed that the lineup will feature high-end MediaTek chipsets and possibly one of the phones will equip an unnamed Snapdragon chipset. Some of the other features that the models are said to get include — 2K resolution AMOLED panels from Samsung, a 108-megapixel camera, WiFi 6, and support for Hi-res audio. Redmi K50 series: Specs and features

— Redmi is expected to unveil three new smartphones under the Redmi K50 series the Redmi K50, the Redmi K50 Pro, and the Redmi K50 Pro+. Rumours suggest that the Redmi K50 will be equipped with a Snapdragon 870 chipset, the Redmi K50 Pro will come with the newly launched Dimensity 8100 chipset, and lastly, the Redmi K50 Pro+ will pack a Dimensity 9000 chipset.

The upcoming lineup is also teased to sport a design refresh. A poster from Redmi revealed the design of the Redmi K50 Pro and the Redmi K50 Pro+. In the picture, the phone can be seen featuring a rectangular camera module that holds triple rear cameras in a circular array and LED flash. The rest of the rear panel is plain with a Redmi logo. On the front, there’s a centered punch-hole display.

–Other specs and details of the Redmi K50 series have been revealed in recent teasers. The lineup will feature a QHD+ AMOLED panel from Samsung with support for Dolby Vision and DC dimming. It will also be protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Redmi K50 series will be the first to bring support for Bluetooth 5.3. The devices are also getting support for LC3 audio codec, which is the high-quality successor to the SBC audio codec.

Camera details are not out but it is likely that the Redmi K50 Pro and the Redmi K50 Pro+ will feature a 108-megapixel main rear camera. The vanilla Redmi K50 is likely to sport a 64-megapixel main camera.

Redmi K50 series launch date and expected price

The Redmi K50 series will be unveiled on March 17 in China. The company hasn’t released the details of its India launch yet, but rumours and leaks suggest that the phones will hit the country in the months to come.

The pricing of the Redmi K50 series will be released on the day of launch. It is likely that these smartphones will come at an aggressive pricing. To recall, last year, the Redmi K40 was launched at a starting price of CNY 1999 (roughly Rs 23,000) for the base model. The top-end model, the Redmi K40 Pro+, arrived at CNY 3699 (roughly Rs 42,000).
