New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit violence-hit Bogtui village in Birbhum district today to take stock of situation.
Eight people including two children were charred to death on Tuesday after a mob set houses on fire in the village, following the killing of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader.
Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asserted strict action against the perpetrators of violence and said she would visit the village where the incident took place.
Talking to the media Wednesday the CM blamed the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the incident and said it was an attempt to defame her government and party
“It was an attempt by the BJP, Left and the Congress to malign our government. Strict action will be taken against all those responsible for the Birbhum incident, irrespective of their (political) colour,” Mamata was quoted by news agency PTI.
“We have already removed the (police) Officer-in-Charge, the SDPO and other senior officers. The DGP is in the district since yesterday,” she added.
The TMC chief also said that she will not stop any political leader of any party from visiting the village like the BJP had done during the Hathras and Unnao rape case incidents in Uttar Pradesh last year.
She further said that such incidents (Birbhum violence) are more frequent in BJP ruled states.
“This is Bengal, not UP. We allowed everyone to visit Birbhum. “Not justifying the Birbhum killings, but such incidents are more frequent in UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan,” said Mamata, as reported by PTI.
