10 ASIAN COUNTRIES THAT ARE REOPENING FOR TRAVEL; HERE’S ALL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Indonesia

Effective March 21, Indonesia eased all quarantine requirements for international visitors. The country’s Tourism and Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, however, added that travellers will be required to provide proof of a negative PCR test that has been taken before arrival in Indonesia.

Malaysia

Malaysia is all set to reopen its borders for fully vaccinated international tourists from April 1. Visitors will be required to provide a negative PCR test result that has been taken within 48 hours of their trip, and within 24 hours of arrival in Malaysia, they will have to take a rapid test.

Nepal

As of March 16, all fully vaccinated travellers can enter Nepal without the need to undergo testing. Those without a vaccination certificate, will be required to take an approved COVID-19 test (NAAT, RT-PCR, Gene Xpert) within 72 hours of their travel. Do note, all travellers can get visa-on-arrival at the port of entry , regardless of vaccine status.

Maldives

Effective March 5, all those who are fully vaccinated would no longer be required to provide a negative PCR test upon arrival in the Maldives. They will also not be required to provide a PCR test report prior to departing. They will just need to complete the Traveler Health Declaration form within 48 hours of their flight. However, as per the Maldives Immigration, travellers need to show proof of their hotel accommodations booking, and a return airline ticket to their home country.

Philippines

From February 10, the Philippines is allowing fully vaccinated visitors to visit the county without the need to undergo quarantine. However, the travellers are required to provide proof of vaccination, as well as a negative PCR test report that has been taken within 48 hours of departure from their country of origin.

Those partially vaccinated or unvaccinated or whose vaccination status cannot be confirmed, they will be required to provide proof of a negative PCR test that has been taken within 48-hours before their flight, and also follow the quarantine requirements.

Sri Lanka

As of March 1, fully vaccinated travellers are not required to undergo on-arrival testing and pre-departure PCR/antigen testing, and can stay at accommodation of their choice. Note that children under the age of 12 will remain exempt from on-arrival and departure PCR/antigen testing, but those unvaccinated between 12 and 18 years old, will be required to undergo PCR test within 72 hours of their arrival.

All visitors will be required to fill out an Online Health Declaration Form and upload the relevant documents to get a QR code in advance of travel. Plus, foreign visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, will require COVID-19 insurance with a minimum coverage amount of $75000.

South Korea

From April 1, South Korea will be allowing fully vaccinated travellers to visit the country without undergoing quarantine, as per its tourism authority. Travellers before travelling to Korea will need to submit their vaccination records online through Q-CODE to bypass 7-day quarantine, and get a QR code which they will be required to show on arrival. Travellers will also be required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test report that has been taken within 48 hours of their departure.

Singapore

Singapore is all set to lift restrictions for all vaccinated travellers from next week. It will become the latest Asian country to ease travel restrictions which has been more reluctant to lift restrictions than North America and Europe. As per the reports, from April 1, unvaccinated children and fully vaccinated adults will be allowed to enter the country without the need to undergo a pre-departure test.

Vietnam

Vietnam is fully open for travel as of March 15. It recently ended the vaccine passport program which was put into place last November. However, do note that foreign travellers will be required to provide proof of a negative PRC test that has been taken within 72 hours prior to arrival, and also have a Coronavirus-specific travel insurance policy that carries a covering of minimum $10000. Plus, the travellers will need to fill out a health declaration form and download the PC-COVID app to monitor their health during their first 10 days of their trip.

Thailand

From April 1, Thailand will be further easing travel restrictions. As per the reports, from then on, Thailand will be dropping its pre-travel testing requirement for fully vaccinated international travellers. They will still have to follow one of the entry schemes available, i.e., SandboxTest & Go, and Alternative Quarantine (AQ).
