Kapil Sibal quits Congress, files nomination papers for RS polls with support from SP

Lucknow | Jagran Politics Desk: Senior Congress leader and a member of G-23, the group of 23 dissenters in the party, on Wednesday said that he has resigned from the grand old party while asserting that “it is important to be an independent voice”. Sibal informed that he had tendered his resignation from the Congress on May 16.

The major development came after Kapil Sibal filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow with the support of the Samajwadi Party (SP). Akhilesh Yadav and party MP Gopal Yadav were also present when Sibal filed his nomination papers.

Sibal said that he has filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate noting that he always wanted to be an independent voice in the country. “I’ve filed nomination as Independent candidate. I have always wanted to be an independent voice in the country,” he said as quoted by ANI.
