Income Tax efiling portal hit by glitches on 1st anniv; Infosys CEO Salil Parekh tagged in tweet by I-T India

From the time, the new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department has been developed, it has been in news for the snags and glitches users are facing while using it. And on its first anniversary of unveiling, June 7, the e-filing portal again developed snags. There were issues relating to the search functionality on the portal. The Income Tax department had on Tuesday also directed Infosys to address the new glitches on the portal, even going to the extent of tagging its CEO Salil Parekh in a tweet. Reverting to which Infosys confirmed that they are resolving the issue on priority.

Informing about the same, the Income Tax Department tweeted, “Issue relating to the search functionality of the e-filing website has come to our notice. The Income Tax Department is seized of the matter. @Infosys has been directed to look into it & @Infosys has confirmed that they are resolving the issue on priority. @SalilParekh.”

It can be noted that the new Income Tax e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in was launched on June 7, 2021. After the launch, the portal faced technical glitches for several weeks. And the resurfacing of the glitch again on its launch anniversary led people to wonder if the portal has been hacked.

The government also clarified that the portal has not been hacked and some glitches on the portal even got rectified within an hour. Sangeeta Singh, the chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), said on June 7, “We are seized of the matter, glitches of non-accessibility on the tax portal happened and we immediately asked Infosys to look into the concerns. Infosys has been informed and Infosys is continuously checking. Some glitches got corrected in an hour, the preliminary verification report from Infosys is that no breach of data has happened.”

The statement was given by Singh during an event organised by the Income Tax Department in New Delhi as part of the Ministry of Finance’s Iconic Week on the sidelines of the launching of an e-book named “Pratidhwani.” The government had in the year 2019, given the contract to Infosys to develop the new Income Tax e-filing portal.
