How to pay bills, recharge phone number through Google Pay using credit card

Last week, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that smartphone users will be able to use their credit cards to make UPI payments. The facility has been announced for RuPay credit cards specifically. This simply means that if you have a RuPay credit card, you will be able to make UPI payments. However, it entirely depends on the UPI platform like Google Pay, PhonePe, among others, to enable the option and allow you to make payments using their RuPay-based credit cards. Currently, Google Pay is one of the most used UPI platforms in the country.

RBI said that UPI payments through credit card will be as hassle free as it is with debit cards. You will simply need to link your credit card with the UPI payments platform. But, the new rule comes with a catch. Currently, you will only be allowed to pay bills including electricity, gas, among others, and recharge mobile numbers. This simply means, you will not be able to send or receive money or even pay at the nearest kirana store with your credit card using Google Pay.

Step 1: Update the Google Pay app and open it on your phone. The app is available for iOS as well as Android users.

Step 2: After opening Google Pay app, you will need to tap on the profile icon shown in the top right corner.

Step 3: Click on the bank account option next.

Step 4: Then, select the “add credit and debit card” option.

Step 5: There are various ways in which you can add your credit card to Google Pay. You can either scan the credit card or prefer using the manual process of entering details.

Step 6: You will then need to enter your billing address and mobile number for verification.

Step 7: Once the process is completed, you will be able to make payments via credit card on Google Pay.
