First Ola electric car to be a large sedan

In a move away from the direction the start-up was taking earlier, Ola Electric has suggested that the first Ola electric car could be a large sedan and not an entry-level hatchback. This was revealed via a teaser shown during the recent customer’s day at the Ola Electric factory.

Ola Electric car details

The teaser suggests the first Ola electric car will be a sharply styled sedan, possibly in the C or D segment. The renders show full-width LED lightbars and a striking split fascia. There’s a heavily raked coupe roofline and some muscular haunches. At the rear too there is a sharp LED light bar and what seems like an aerodynamically-optimised rear section. This is a big departure from the low-cost hatchback the company had previously showcased and may have been done to make a better business case for an electric car in the current scenario. A larger, more upmarket sedan will allow Ola Electric to manage costs better than a small, low-margin hatchback. The EV could be revealed on August 15.

Ola Electric car expected range, ADAS

With this larger sedan bodystyle, Ola should be able to pack in a large battery pack. We suspect anywhere between 50 to 70 kWh could be a possibility which should give the Ola EV a sizeable real-world range. There should also be fast DC charging speeds and we wouldn’t be surprised if Ola also decides to set up its own high-speed charging network for these cars, going the Tesla route.

The Ola electric car should also come with some notable tech features, a major highlight of which will be ADAS. This could start off a basic Level 1 or Level 2 system before being upgraded further via OTA updates. As in the norm, there should be a significant suite of connected-car features as well as large screens.

Ola Electric car expected launch date, prices

The company had earlier stated it would launch the Ola electric car by 2024, given the August 15 reveal date we expect Ola to adhere to this timeline despite the shift in its strategy. The EV should also be an upmarket offering priced at over Rs 20 lakh.
