The president of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled his residence as the protestors surrounded his residence in Colombo. The news of his flee came shortly after the Sri Lankan police fired tear gas at protestors on Saturday, July 9, in the largest anti-government marches in the crisis-hit country this year.

Demonstartors in thousands entered Colombo on Saturday to express their outrage over the government’s failure to protect them from economic ruin, reports stated.

The island country of 22 million population had been reeling under a severe economic crisis and has limited essential imports of fuel, food, medicine and this turmoil has been dubbed one of the worst in seven decades.
