The early trends on Monday hint at a flat to negative opening for the Indian market. Amid weak global cues, benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex had closed flat earlier on Friday. On Monday, the SGX Nifty fell around 40 points in early trade on the Singaporean exchange. Similarly, a majority of the Asian markets were trading in the red. Japanese Nikkei 225 declined 0.3%, Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Exchange dropped 1.2%, while Chinese Shanghai Composite rose around 0.20% on Monday.

Earlier, the US market ended in the red on Friday despite robust employment data. Dow Jones declined 337 points, Nasdaq 154 points and S&P500 ended lower by 42 points ahead of holiday on Monday. The US market will remain closed on Monday for Labor Day.
