Team India vice-captain KL Rahul is set to marry Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty in January 2023. The wedding will take place a couple of months after the T20 World Cup 2022. Team India will be taking part in T20 World Cup in Australia before landing in New Zealand for a white-ball series.
As per ANI, the wedding will take place in Maharashtra a few weeks after Team India’s arrival back home. India are scheduled to face Bangladesh after their return from NZ.
“KL informed me a few days back that he will marry Athiya next year. After that, a close family member from the girl’s side also told me the same. After the T20 World Cup, the team will go for New Zealand tour and after this, the wedding will take place in Maharashtra,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by ANI.
The star couple has been dating for a long time. Interestingly, Sunil Shetty, Athiya’s father, is a big fan of cricket and often shares his take on the game on social media. The Bollywood actor was also spotted cheering for KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants during IPL 2022.
Rahul struggling for form
Rahul, who made his return to cricket during the Zimbabwe tour, is still struggling for form. Leading the team against the minnows in the ODI series, Rahul only managed scores of 1 and 30. In the ongoing Asia Cup, Rahul has scores of 0, 36, 28 and 6 in 4 matches.
His strike rate has also been on the lower side, which is a big worry for the Men in Blue. There are no doubts over his place in the team but the management would hope that he returns to form soon. With a defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka, India are now all but out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.
