Know the side effects of consuming excess paneer

New Delhi: Which vegetarian doesn’t like eating paneer?

The versatile dish, made with fermenting milk, not only tastes good but is extremely good for health. Packed with the goodness of calcium and protein, paneer, also known as cottage cheese helps in strengthening bones, reducing joint pains, and aids a good digestive system

However, like any other food that causes trouble when consumed in excess, paneer too has its flip-sides and adverse health effects.

Side effects of consuming too much paneer

  • Digestive issues: Even though paneer consumption aids digestion and boosts metabolism, eating too much paneer can make you bloat, and feel uncomfortable. It can also lead to heartburn and severe stomach ache. Since paneer is loaded with proteins, it takes longer than normal to digest and if you keep overeating, bloating or acidity is inevitable.
  • Weight gain: Too much paneer consumption can also lead to unnecessary weight gain. So if you are trying to lose weight, eliminate the dish from your daily diet. Nutritionists believe that if paneer is made from skimmed milk, only then it should be incorporated into your food.
  • Increases cholesterol: Extremely high levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. According to Healthline, studies say that six in 10 Indians suffer from abnormal levels of bad cholesterol. And nutritionists believe that people who already have increased cholesterol should avoid paneer consumption.
  • Trigger allergies: Even though it can be rare, many people who suffer from milk-related allergies can also have adverse effects after eating paneer. Also, cheese made with poor-quality milk or expired paneer can trigger allergic reactions, resulting in digestive issues, nausea, vomiting, loose motions, or even skin breakouts and rashes.
