New Delhi: Since late May this year, fuel prices have remained the same across metros and on Sunday too, there was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel. Public sector Oil Marketing Companies, such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise fuel prices daily at 6 am, in line with international benchmark prices and foreign exchange rates.

Fuel prices have remained constant for more than five months now as they haven’t been revised since late May when finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre.
In the national capital Delhi, petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 96.72 and Rs 89.62 per litre, respectively. In Mumbai, petrol is being sold for Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel for Rs 94.27. Petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 102.63 and Rs 94.24 in Chennai and at Rs 106.03 and Rs 92.76 in Kolkata, respectively.
The prices of petrol and diesel have stabilised from the peaks of April 2022, when the average price of petrol was somewhere over Rs 110 per litre. This was due to the incessant hikes in prices from late March to early April.

Meanwhile, state-owned Indian Oil Corporation on Saturday reported a net loss of Rs 272.35 crore for July-September. It had booked a profit of Rs 6,360.05 crore in July-September 2021. The loss comes on the back of a Rs 1,992.53 crore loss logged in the previous quarter, as it sold petrol, diesel and LPG at rates below cost.
