T20 World Cup: India vs Pakistan Final Very Much On The Cards

And then there were four. Yes, after 3 weeks of action and 42 games, 4 sides are left in contention for the T20 World Cup. Shockingly, defending champions and hosts Australia were not one of them. But Pakistan was able to squeeze through.

In fact, thanks to Netherlands’ upset over South Africa, we may eventually actually have a Mother of All Battles in the title clash. Yes, we are talking about India and Pakistan.

At one point in the tournament, it looked like India or Pakistan would make it to the semis and then it looked like only India would. But they both did. Now both have a shot at making it to the title clash.

After they started their respective campaigns with a thriller on October 23 in which the Men in Blue won by 4 wickets of the final ball, fans only wished they could see them play again in the tournament. The only way that could take place was if they met in the final. Now there is a realistic chance of it.

Mind you, it will not be easy. Pakistan face New Zealand on November 9 and India take on England on November 10. Tough opponents in straight knockouts so neither side will experience a walk in the park. Ultimately maybe one might make it to the final and one may miss out. Or even both may not make it. But if they do then one can expect fireworks once more.

It’s already happened once. Rewind to the inaugural edition in 2007. India beat Pakistan by 5 runs to become the first T20 World Cup winners. Pakistan would win the next edition in 2009.

India have history on their side. In 7 T20 World Cup encounters, India have won 6 and Pakistan 1. In the finals, it is 1-0 India. But of course, history matters little in a title clash. So come November 13, we may see the rivals face off once more. This time for the ultimate prize.
