Now book tickets for Attari-Wagah beating retreat ceremony online from Jan 1; Check details

Amritsar: People willing to witness the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Attari-Wagah Border near Amritsar in Punjab can now book their seats online from next year.

Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a web portal- https://attari.bsf.gov.in — for the online booking of seats which will be available from January 1 next year.

“Welcome to JCP Attari website. Bookings to view the Joint Retreat Ceremony can now be made online. Bookings Open from 1st January 2023,” announced the BSF in a tweet from its official handle.

The Beating Retreat ceremony is a daily military practice that India’s BSF and Pakistan Rangers have jointly followed together since 1959.

The ceremony is an iconic ritual of lowering of the national flags of both the countries at the border. The ceremony starts every evening immediately before sunset with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both sides and ends with the perfectly coordinated lowering of the two nations’ flags

Currently, people reach the border without any booking and the BSF allows them to take seats in the gallery after checking their ID cards.

The new arrangement, which will be available from January 1, is not chargeable and visitors will be initially allowed to book seats for 12 persons in one group. The visitor/s has/have to book the tickets 48 hours before the desired day, after furnishing photo ID card details on the online website, informed a senior BSF official.

After the seats are booked, the visitors will receive the details of the booking through an SMS on the registered mobile number of the leader of the concerned group or the first visitor listed, he added.
