Saphala Ekadashi 2022: Date, time, significance and puja rituals

The last Ekadashi of this year has arrived. It is known as the Saphala Ekadashi. The word Saphala denotes success, whereas Ekadashi refers to the 11th tithi or lunar day. The devotees on this day worship Lord Vishnu for success, abundance, and a life of good fortune. They chant mantras and observe strict fasts without consuming water.

A total of 24 Ekadashis are observed in a year. This year Saphala Ekadashi falls at the end of the year in the Hindu month of Pausha on the Krishna Ekadashi tithi. Mostly Saphala Ekadashi occurs in the month of December or January. People, in order to get rid of their past sins, observe this day to get a blissful life ahead.

SAPHALA EKADASHI 2022: PARANA TIME

Parana signifies the time of breaking the fast. Ekadashi Parana is performed after sunrise on the next day of fasting. As per  Hindu beliefs, it is important to do Parana during Dwadashi tithi.

SAPHALA EKADASHI 2022: RITUALS

Individuals, after taking a holy bath, visit the temple and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu or Lord Krishna.

The ones who stay home and offer prayers prepare a dedicated place where they can place the photo or idol of Lord Vishnu.

They clean the house and decorate it with flowers and incense sticks.

The idols of Lord Vishnu are provided with haldi, Chandan, kumkum, and coconut.

Then the devotees chant the mantra of ‘Om Namah Bhagavate Vasudevaya.’
