Delhi cold wave: Things to remember about heaters, top heaters you can buy right now

Winters in Delhi are getting colder and more severe. According to news agency PTI, the temperature in the northern part (Ridge Area) of the national capital dropped to 3 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest mornings in Delhi this year. Moreover, Delhi witnessed the coldest Christmas day in eight years, as the temperature recorded during the day was 16.2 degrees. According to the IMD, dense fog will likely stay for the next few days.

Naturally, people are turning to heaters and insulators to fight the Delhi cold. However, if you are unprepared, there are a bunch of room heaters available with discounts on Flipkart, which is currently hosting its Year End sale till December 26. Before you buy a heater, it is also advisable to know the type of heater is the best fit for you.

Typically, I advise customers to go for oil-based heaters as they keep the room warmer for a long period. They are more expensive, but these help users significantly with respiratory problems or sinus. There are options for cheaper prices, such as a fan-heater (or blower) or a coil heater. However, the room gets colder immediately after you switch it off.

Also known as an oil-filled heater or oil-filled radiator, these consume relatively less energy. However, oil heaters require a big power outlet to connect to, so ensure there’s one in the room. The Bajaj Majesty oil heater weighs 13kg, which is typical for oil heaters, though the weight may cause trouble for elderly customers. 2. Havells  9 FIN Fan Heater Oil Filled Room Heater: The Havells oil heater is for those on a tighter budget and it costs Rs 8,498 on Flipkart. Its power consumption is rated at 2400 W.

Havells says the heater supports a “tilt switch” option that automatically shuts down the heater if it falls over. Flipkart is offering similar discount options with Bank of Baroda and ICICI cards.
