Rishabh Pant to undergo surgery for ligament tears in Mumbai, to be monitored by BCCI’s medical team: Jay Shah

Rishabh Pant is being airlifted to Mumbai by the BCCI and will be monitored by the board’s medical team as he recovers from the accident which took place on December 30. BCCI secretary Jay Shah released an official statement on Wednesday (January 4) and said that Rishabh will undergo surgery and further procedures for ligament tears. The wicketkeeper-batsman will be monitored by BCCI’s medical team in Mumbai.

“He will be admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute and will be under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head – the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director – Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital. Rishabh will undergo surgery and subsequent procedures for ligament tears and will continue to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team throughout his recovery and rehabilitation,” a part of BCCI’s statement read.

“The Board will make every effort to aid and expedite the recovery process of Rishabh and will provide him with all the support he needs during this period.”

Rishabh met with an accident on his way to Roorkee. The youngster had returned from Dubai and was driving to his home to surprise his mother on the new year. He met with the accident in the wee hours. Rishabh managed to come out of his car in time and was taken to the hospital by a bus driver and conductor.

Rishabh, who was rested for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka, is confirmed to miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has been ruled out of IPL 2023 as well. He leads Delhi Capitals in the T20 league and the franchise will have a new captain in his absence.

As far as international cricket goes, India are confirmed to have a debutant in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Rishabh’s absence. KS Bharat looks all but set to don his maiden Test cap while Ishan Kishan could be in line to earn his maiden Test call-up.
