Mopa airport faces protests: Section 144 imposed, check all restrictions

Mopa: In anticipation of opposition from the land losers, the Goa government has implemented Section 144 near the recently completed Manohar International Airport-Mopa, which began regular aircraft operations on Thursday.

According to sources, the precautions were taken to prevent the demonstration from impeding the free flow of vehicles from the airport. Numerous locations in the airport’s vicinity had police presence.

According to the police, the people who lost their land rights for the Mopa Airport in the Pernem Taluka, including Mopa, Warkhand, Nagzar, and Chandel, are protesting under the slogan “Together for Pednekars” and asking to be given preference so they can register their taxis as Yellow Black Taxis and have a separate counter at the airport, as well as to prevent Ola and Uber taxis from operating from this airport.

The district magistrate has ruled that gatherings and assemblies of five or more people are forbidden eyeing the protests. Apart from that. processions cannot be taken out or planned for the following 60 days starting on Thursday.

No firecrackers may be set off, the use of loudspeakers is prohibited. Music marching bands in a procession are also prohibited. Social gatherings must get prior approval from the administration.

Protests and hunger strikes are also forbidden in the area.

IndiGo began operating out of the old airport at Dabolim while also increasing its passenger capacity to the well-liked tourist destination by launching 168 weekly flights to Goa’s second airport at Mopa on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently opened the new Goa Manohar International Airport, which was built by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a fully owned subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited.
