How to check Aadhaar PAN link status by SMS

Aadhaar Pan Link Status By SMS: As per a circular issued by the CBDT in March 2022, PAN allotted to a person would become inoperative if it is not linked with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023. 

Aadhaar Pan Link Status By SMS: The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar to Permanent Account Number (PAN) on or before March 31. Failing to do so may lead to PAN being inoperative or attract penalty.

As per a circular issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in March 2022, PAN allotted to a person would become inoperative if it is not linked with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, and would be liable to all the consequences under the Income-tax Act, 1961, for not furnishing, intimating or quoting the PAN.

On Wednesday, March 9, markets regulator Sebi asked all investors to link their PAN with their Aadhaar number by March end for continual and smooth transactions in the securities market.

How to check Aadhaar PAN link status by SMS: Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Compose an SMS–type UIDPAN followed by a space.

Step 2: Enter a 12-digit Aadhaar number followed by a space.

Step 3: Enter a 10-digit Permanent Account Number (PAN) followed by a space.

The SMS will look like this-

UIDPAN < 12 digit Aadhaar number> < 10 digit Permanent Account Number>

Step 4: Send to 567678 or 56161.

Step 5: Wait for a response from the service.

In case the PAN is linked with the Aadhaar, the message will read “Aadhaar…is already associated with PAN (number) in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.”

If case the PAN is not linked with the Aadhaar, the message will say “Aadhaar…is not associated with PAN (number) in ITD database.”

The provisions of the Income-tax Act make it mandatory for every person who has been allotted a PAN to intimate his/her Aadhaar number to the prescribed authority so that the Aadhaar and PAN can be linked. This is required to be done on or before the notified date, failing which the PAN would become inoperative.
