Remarks on sexual harassment victims: Rahul Gandhi said he needs some time, cop says

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Sunday visited the residence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a notice he received for his remark during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he stated that “women are still being sexually assaulted.”

Rahul assured the cops that he will share all necessary information about the claims that he had made during his padyatra speech in Srinagar.

“We held a meeting with Rahul Gandhi. He said he needs some time and will give us the information which we’ve asked for. Today we’ve served a notice which has been accepted by his office and if questioning needs to be done then we will do it,” special commissioner of police (law and order) Sagar Preet Hooda said.

“We will begin our proceedings as soon as we receive the information,” he added.

The police team headed by Hooda arrived at Rahul Gandhi’s 12, Tughlaq Lane residence, officials said.

The police sent a questionnaire to Gandhi after taking note of his comments on social media, requesting that he provide details about any women who had approached him regarding sexual harassment. Officials confirmed that the team arrived at Gandhi’s residence at 12, Tughlaq Lane.

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, Rahul Gandhi had reportedly stated, “I have heard that women are still being sexually assaulted.”

Police had asked him to give details of these victims so that security could be provided to them, the officials said.
